KHL’s SKA sign Team Finland head coach

Jukka Jalonen (AFP Photo / Jonathan Nackstrand)KHL fat-cats SKA St Petersburg have signed an 18-month deal with current Finnish national team head coach Jukka Jalonen. The news comes a few days after the club’s previous coach Milos Riha was given his marching orders despite SKA sitting top of the KHL Western Conference.Jalonen will be presented to his new charges on Friday after a game against Spartak Moscow. “I want to become the first foreign coach to win the Gagarin Cup,” Jalonen told the Sport-Express paper.The Finn will wear two hats, at the helm of both the St Pete side and Team Finland, until the IIHF World Championships in May 2013, after which he will leave the Lions.During four years as Team Finland’s head coach the 50 year old lifted the World Champs trophy once in 2011 and claimed bronze at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
